Women to sue Qatar for gynecological airport searches

Seven Australia-based women are planning to sue the government of Qatar for being forced into invasive gynaecological examinations at Doha’s international airport last year.

The incident caused outrage, and fuelled concerns about Qatar’s treatment of women as the Gulf state prepares to receive thousands of foreign visitors for the 2022 football World Cup.

The women, aged from their early 30s to late 50s, would likely initiate legal action in the New South Wales state Supreme Court within a few weeks. They have not specified the amount of compensation that they are seeking.
